CiCi Porter

MORE PHOTOS

I first became acquainted with CiCi Porter when she opened for Dan Fogelberg at Humphrey's By The Bay in San Diego in July 2000..  She was accompanied by the moon, a nice breeze and a voice that any sailor would steer his ship to.  The only thing that matched her voice was the way she strummed that beautiful acoustic she held in her hands.

She sang among others:
About a dear friend who overcame the slavery of addictions; "Song For Lisa"
About a tree that once stood where she grew up; "For The Ironwood"
About being with friends while fires raged in the mountains; "Pompeii"
And my favorite; "Wild Wolves"

These are all from the CD "Over Oceans" which I took home with me from the show.  It really is worth adding to your collection of music.

Her music moves more than just humans. True story: During 1990, Porter was in Alaska, practicing music for her first recording, Wide Open Spaces. Strumming somewhere in the woods of a town called Healy, Porter was confronted by a large white moose. Undaunted by the husky moose, the singer-songwriter-acoustic guitarist continued playing. To her amazement, the moose stood frozen-still. When she finished serenading, Porter opened her eyes and her four-legged beast ran away into the twilight.

Porter's first paying gig was at age 14, playing her guitar and singing at a vegetarian restaurant in her hometown of Columbus, Ohio. She studied dance and voice, played in folk, rock and blue grass bands and then set off to see the world with her guitar in her early twenties.

Relocating to San Diego in 1983, Porter quickly joined a folk-rock band called Bordertown. The band recorded five albums and received virtually every music award that San Diego has to offer, including San Diego Magazine's 1991 "Band of the Year."

Porter's solo career resumed with her release of, Over Oceans. Ten songs of gentle folk-pop delivered with intelligent insight. Enjoyment for two-legged or four-legged creatures.

There was the normal intermission between CiCi and Dan so I went and chatted with her for a bit.  She told me that she and some others had started a new band, Wooden Angel, with a record due out soon.  This project has become a reality.  I have a copy and it is a wonderful listen... ...and much to my surprise I found that there is a bonus track at the end; "Wild Wolves" from the "Over Oceans" Cd... ...one of my favorite songs of CiCi's and I'm glad they included it on this CD as well.

CiCi is currently recording an album of 13 songs dedicated to the healing process and prevention of childhood sexual abuse. "The Journey To Wholeness Project" CD and concert series will give half of the proceeds to programs of healing from
childhood sexual abuse. She hopes to complete the album by summer 2002.

Welcome to The Cici Porter Journey to Wholeness Project
A CD and concert series dedicated to the healing
and prevention of childhood sexual abuse.

My name is Cici. I’m a singer-songwriter who has worked as a professional musician for 30 years. For twelve of those years, I’ve been dealing with recovered memories of sexual abuse at a very early age. As music has always been my own personal therapy, I look back now and see a trail of songs that chronicles my journey from the first devastating eruption of those memories, through the hard work of healing and integration, to where I stand today, in a place of acceptance, freedom, and peace. My hope is that through sharing my music and my story, I can help others to reclaim their innate wholeness, and help create a world where it is safe for victims and perpetrators alike to tell the truth about their experience and get the help that they need.

I am currently recording an album of 13 songs dedicated to the healing process. One half of the proceeds of that album will go to programs of healing from childhood sexual abuse. I hope to complete the album by summer 2002. ( I’ll keep you posted on its progress at http://wholenessproject.com/ ). I also tell my musical story in crisis centers, recovery homes, healing conferences and prisons.

The concert, which took place in October, 2001, was originally intended as a fund-raising event for thecreation of a fully produced CD of the
songs performed that evening.  More than just a  musical event, it was the sharing of my story through music and a discussion of the events
behind the songs and my  healing process.

Upon listening to the recording six months later, I realized that there was a magic captured on this evening that was more important than even
the most perfectly produced tracks of the same material could ever communicate.  Just the experience of traveling with me from my first tentative words, audience and performer nervous alike, through the ease and humor that grows with each subsequent song, to the freedom and joy expressed in the room by the end of the concert, is a metaphor for the journey that the songs convey.  I offer this CD as a way to share that journey and my message of hope with anyone who is open to hear it.

And a PS for those who were wondering:
I am still working on the  'fully produced version' CD.

It should be complete near the end of this year.

I'll keep you posted!

I am thrilled to announce the release of my new CD "Emergence!"

Although the CD Release Party has passed,
the help you can give to us in the world who
have been subjected to sexual abuse has not.

CiCi Porter
February 5, 2003

I too knew firsthand the pains of childhood sexual abuse.  Thanks to some wonderful people working to the same goal as CiCi is now, I was able to work through it and shed myself of the horror.  This past year a friend told me of how her ex-hubby had abused their daughters.  Out of this I felt compelled to write a song titled "No More Secrets ~ No More Lies".  I will include the words here.  To listen to the song click here.

I now would like to dedicate this song to my counselor, Jerome Young, who passed away in 2001 of cancer.  Without him, I wouldn't have become me.

" Victim No Longer ~ Survivor Evermore "

No More Secrets ~ No More Lies

She came into the world
A precious little girl
That night her Daddy took it all away
How can such a man
Deal his child a selfish hand
Then be allowed to lie it all away

For the rest of her days
In her mind it will replay
The little secret between Daddy and his baby girl
What will be the scene
Each Father’s day will bring
To this precious girl since Daddy stole her world

Oh I pray up to the Heavens to comfort this sweet child
To send down love to wipe her fears away
That one day a man will come, in whom she can give trust
Who’ll love her with respect for all her days

Oh, Please no more pain for little girls
No more little secrets for girls in precious curls
No more lies and no more pillowed cries
Nor hiding the truth behind sad eyes

Girl you’re not to blame
No need to hide in shame
Come forth and tell the world of what he’s done
Sing it loud and clear
So everyone will hear
With this your healing victory has begun

Oh I pray up to the Heavens to comfort this sweet child
To send down love to wipe her fears away
That one day a man will come, in whom she can give trust
Who’ll love her with respect for all her days

Oh, Please no more pain for little girls
No more little secrets for girls in precious curls
No more lies and no more pillowed cries
Nor hiding the truth behind sad eyes
