Sisters Of The Ages
I stand and look at the mesas,
the arroyos
I hear your call, my sister from the past
I walk the dry creek bed
And feel your tears as you turn, looking
Waiting for the Great Spirit
To show you the way
Your eyes search
For the path of heart
And I feel your hope weaken
Giving into the fear and pain
Of what you've lost
And what may still
Be taken from you
The desert is harsh
Water is life
Shade a sweet protection
Food a forgotten
thought
The cry of the songbirds
Replaced by the cry of children
I stand, looking, then I hear your spirit
Your voice moves me to stop
And hold the beauty
To feel the songs, the sounds
Pray from your heart
To find the hope that seems lost
It is still there
Hidden as mine was hidden
Behind the pain, the fear
Dear sister of my past
I touch the Earth
As I hear you say
This is life
I feel you say
Breathe the breath
Of the Mighty One
He will lead you safely home
As he lead me ages ago
My heart is one with yours
As we are sisters
We have traveled different times
Yet stand together in the same place
As you walk, you reach for a
rock
One my son played with
You touch it
You hold it close to your heart
Do you feel him?
The burnt wood you hold is of
me
Do you feel the fire
That kept my family safe and warm?
Reach beneath the sand below
your feet
Bury your fear, your worries,
Near my precious baby
She sleeps the long sleep
You will be blessed
For this a a sacred place
The wind carries my love
To help you find
Your own peace and hope
The hawk left you a feather
Of remembrance
It is for you to take a piece of time
And that hope with you
I am happy and free
I chose the right path
The path of the Great Spirit
Creator of all that is good
You choose the same path
I know you, my sister
You are wise and full of heart
As we speak today through ages
The hawk soars
Filled with our spirits joined as one
In Sisterhood
In Motherhood
With Mother Earth
The hawk is a gift to guide
And protect us
As we walk the path
For we are of the chosen ones
You, Earth Mother, my sister
And I, Mother of many
Who walk the
Earth
